You Are What You Think

Peace

According to Dr. Bruce Lipton’s research at Stanford University, 95% of all disease is created by stress. More importantly, if you nullify your stress, your body can overcome almost anything; pain, phobias or disease.

Mental health and well being occurs when the mind is quiet and at peace. The physical, mental and emotional levels are connected and influence each other. The mental level may be the most important to attend to and heal, as it acts as a driver for the physical and emotional levels. Negative thinking can override and undermine the most diligent diet and exercise programs that are designed to shift one from negative thinking to positive thinking, and balanced health and well being.

What this shows is that our thoughts, or state of mind, directly affects us on a biochemical level. Dr. Lipton also discovered in the research that wrong beliefs like “Something bad is bound to happen” or “I’m not good enough” or “Something is wrong with me” cause 90% to 95% of all illness and disease. It makes no difference if the fears or beliefs are unfounded either, because the cell will go into protection response regardless of whether the thoughts have a basis in truth, or not. He has also shown that unless we are fully conscious of what we are doing and why we are doing it in every moment, we are always acting on our unconscious programming stored as beliefs in our cells.

In his book “ The Biology of Belief,” he writes that the nucleus of a cell is not the brains of the cell. He says that the outer skin of the cell, the membrane which is the outer skin of the cell, is the actual brain. It is this outer skin that turns on the release of certain proteins in the cell depending on the information that, what Dr. Lipton refers to as the “mem-brain”, receives from its environment.

This is revolutionary in understanding how thoughts control our lives, and physiology. What Dr. Lipton is saying is that cellular function is not hard wired by DNA, but influenced by stimuli, or thought fields, in the environment. The stimuli, or thought forms trigger one of two states; growth or protection, and a cell cannot be in both states simultaneously. It’s either growing, or it’s not.

Attitude

  • Every thought has a chemical reaction in your body. Change your mind- change your life.
  • The Brain on Happiness: Alert, Energized: Norepinephrine Pleasant feelings: Dopamine
  • Supports parasympathetic arousal
  • A happy mind: Creates resilience: Counteracts depression and anxiety

Physical factors in mental well being and unbalanced brain chemistry can contribute to depression and negative thinking. Please view my power point presentations under the menu bar to the left on addiction and aging for more information.

Emotional Factors in Mental Well Being.  Our feelings are a wonderful barometer of our well being, and will always let us know with complete accuracy when our thinking is dysfunctional. When we are not caught up in negative thinking, our feelings remain positive. Developing this awareness and making the decision to eliminate negative thinking can be dramatically life changing. Please see the Emotional page for more information.
